Unsere Petitionen

Unsere Gruppe betreut den "verschwundenen" Karikaturisten und Journalisten Prageeth Eknalidoda aus Sri Lanka.

Ein Brief an den Präsidenten Sri Lankas könnte so aussehen:

His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena New Secretariat Colombo 1, SRI LANKA

Enforced Disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda on 24 January 2010

Your Excellency,

I have recently heard about the fate of Prageeth Eknaligoda. Being a journalist, cartoonist and outspoken critic of the Sri Lankan government he “disappeared” on the way to his home in Homagama on 24 January 2010, shortly after leaving his office at the internet newspaper Lanka-e-news. A white van without license plates was observed close to his home. He was expected to join a religious event on his way home, but shortly before, he informed a colleague on the phone that he could not take part, because he had to visit an unnamed friend in the Koswatte district. The phone call was interrupted, it was the last contact with him. The phone did not work any longer.

The Mirihana police station started an investigation into the matter on 25 January 2010, one day after Prageeth Eknaligoda’s “disappearance”. On 30 January the Inspector General of the Police decided that the case should be handed over to the “Colombo Criminal Division”. However, this division has shown no visible action in this matter, and Prageeth Eknaligoda’s fate and whereabouts remain unclear up to now.

I am very much concerned about the fate of Prageeth Eknaligoda, all the more since journalists in general seem to be exposed to such threats and attacks in your country and the police seem to have taken no serious action in this matter.

I therefore ask you urgently: to ensure that the investigation into the “disappearance” of Prageeth Eknaligoda is impartial and thorough and is conducted without further delay to ensure that attacks and abductions of journalists in Sri Lanka are properly investigated and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

I would be glad, if you could inform me about the current developments of his whereabout.

Sincerely Yours

N.N.
